Initiatives

The Arlington Community Foundation is designed to be a nimble and well-informed resource to improve and strengthen our community. While the foundation supports the vision of many, below are a few notable current initiatives :-

Youth Philanthropy: This initiative engages Arlington County students in philanthropy and prepares them for a life of community service. A board of high school students raises funds, establishes grant guidelines, evaluates applications, and makes award decisions. Youth Philanthropy is a new initiative established in partnership with the Global Charities Project at Marymount University and Youth Venture.

Hoffman-Boston: This initiative supports Hoffman-Boston Elementary School, whose students have struggled to pass Standards of Learning tests. The Foundation convened stakeholders from local faith, education, and nonprofit organizations to develop strategies that will enable the community to help the school improve student achievement.

Senior Engagement: This initiative seeks to increase the involvement of Arlington's "55-and-Better" community in Foundation projects. By matching individuals to compelling opportunities, it strategically directs investments to impact the quality of life of older adults and other residents countywide. The initiative began with an assessment called "Next Phase: Arlingtonians for Community Good," conducted in association with the Community Experience Partnership. The assessment helped the foundation identify and nurture long-term partnerships with elected officials, business and community leaders, county departments and programs, and service providers to help build public will and strengthen the community. Ultimately, it has helped to propel the Foundation as a real catalyst for positive change.
